President Boris Tadic says that he expects a positive result to the Kosovo debate before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The proceedings resumed today at The Hague-based UN court, to determine the legality of the February 2008 unilateral declaration of independence by the province's ethnic Albanians. President comments on ICJ debate “The decision will probably be widely defined and I expect a positive result for Serbia, because of the fact that international law was violated. We are receiving information that the [ethnic] Albanian side is moving the topic of discussion away from international law,” Tadic commented in Belgrade on Tuesday. He said that other than a violation of international law, there is another issue of concern, namely that the precedent of ethnically motivated secession is so dangerous that the entire international order and security of the world is at risk, adding that the court will have to take that fact into account. “If such a move is legitimized and validated, which in my opinion goes against international law, we could have dramatic political crises all over the world with unforeseeable consequences,” said the Serbian president. He added that the case of Kosovo, and the defense of Serbia's territorial integrity and interests in Kosovo, is of great international importance, reminding that all the big gobal powers will be participating in the debate. “I believe that the court will take its part of the responsibility. Serbia will continue to defend her interest and our goal is to continue negotiations for the future status of Kosovo, because Serbia did not and will not accept such a unilateral independence proclamation,” Tadic said.
