The Ministry of Mining and Energy has made no plans to construct nuclear power plants in Serbia, according to a spokesman. This is in accordance with the nuclear ban still in power in the country, Milan Budimir told Tanjug on Monday. "No nuclear plant plans until 2015" "In accordance with the ban on nuclear power plants, which is still in power, the Ministry of Mining and Energy has not made any plans or projects for the construction of nuclear facilities in Serbia," the ministry's spokesman pointed out. He stressed that the Serbian government had not planned to build any nuclear plants in the country as part of its strategy for the energy sector development by 2015. Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin said in Novi Sad yesterday that Russia was willing to build nuclear and other types of power plants in Serbia, and that talks on this were underway. Minister of Mining and Energy Petar Skundric also reacted to this on Tuesday in parliament when he said that to the Energy Strategy, the construction of nuclear plants in Serbia was not planned until 2015. "The Energy Strategy does not envisage any construction of nuclear factories in Serbia before 2015 and no actions have been taken in terms of projecting or building such plants,” explained Skundric. He also said he "knew nothing about Konuzin's statement". The ambassador spoke at the Chamber of Commerce in Novi Sad yesterday to say that Russia was ready to build a nuclear power plant in Serbia, stressing that the first high-level talks had already been held.
