Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says Serbia could join the EU in five to seven years. According to him, "Belgrade is strongly supported to file EU membership application". Serbia in EU "in five to seven years" Jeremic said in an interview for the European Parliament's official website that "polls now show that 70 percent of the population is in favor of joining the EU". “Serbia could contribute to peace and stability, whereas other contributions would include our historical and cultural legacy. It is very difficult to imagine a stable, peaceful and prosperous Europe that has a big black in the middle,” the minister said, adding that he is an optimist and that he hopes the entire Western Balkans is going to join the EU. “We intend to maintain strict separation between EU integration and determining the future status of Kosovo. This is the official policy of Serbia and the official policy of the EU and it is important to keep it this way,” Jeremic added. The foreign minister said pointed out that the forthcoming visa regime abolishment for Serbian citizens traveling to the EU "will be a great relief". “Visas have been particularly frustrating for us who lived in the former Yugoslavia because we used to travel freely everywhere in the world - both east and west,” Jeremic said.
