niskhala, you are obviously being challenged only by serbian nationalists, otherwise you wouldn't be saying this nonsense. you see, you have no buiness saying who should return and who not. they all have the right to return and they have the right to safety. if serbs should be tried for expelling their albanian neighbours then so should albanians who did the same to them when they returned. other than that it should also be noted that while you were expelled and were away for a few months they and their families were expelled for more than 10 years. i think by now the punishment is disproportionate already.

ethnic cleansing happens because of the way you think. those serbs probably also thought that you don't deserve to be in kosovo and they had their reasons. i understand the hate, but i do not approve of it.

if you get to read this, you were informed that you are not cool by someone who is not a nationalist. there are to many robertos and serbian nationalists around. this site needs more true leftists.

wow, commending comments by a troll and a guy who claims that 60% of the serbs are war criminals. can you stoop even lower? saying that 60% of serbs in kosovo committed war crimes is obviously an attempt to vilify the entire people, to create a situation where every serb is guilty until proven innocent in minds of ordinary albanians so that serbs are not welcome in kosovo. the purpose of such claims is to spread hatred and it should be condemned as racism. yet this obviously hateful comment is according to you great? and you dare to moarlise on this site all day long?

    disgusting!

    thank you.

  3. And who justifys that most of so called government of Kosovo is made of war criminals, and why are they tolerated by the west and send back when most of witnesses against them are killed or threatened?

  6. there are so many needs to address in the balkans, and they won't be, as long as it is biz as usual, as long as there is one country particularly trying to destabilize the region, continuing to harbor war criminals, continuing to persecute those who it sees as the "other."

    thank you.

Funny how you always insist on blaming serbs. Do you really think you can blame one country for a war?

How about the 581,663 serbs of Krajina? How about the Serbs that were in Kosovo? You can peck all you like from upon your moral high horse, but why would serbs want to return when their cemetaries are vandalised and mined, when their churches are destroyed, when there homes are torched and now occupied by albanians, when they cant move around freely, where they are denied basic essentials and where they are denied the right to employment. You can sit there all you like and try pin the war on the serbs, but remember one thing, the war in Kosovo was started by the KLA. Had they not been so greedy and absorbed in their thirst for 'independence' a lot more people might have been around today.

"However, I know that my (former) Serbian neighbors are guilty of stealing my property and burning down my house in Peja."

    John,
I am sure our friend Frisco would be touched with that story.. but can you tell us how many K-albanians are guilty of stealing property, burning down homes, churches and cemeteries? And how many guilty of illegal selling of serb properties and organ trafficing?

  8. "# Nothing compared to Adem Demaci who sat in serbian prison for 28 years for doing nothing. The Mandela of Kosovo.

60% of the K.serbs did crime against the albanian populations there. That is why no one of them is returning to Kosovo. And they are not welcomed.
    (Demi, 6 November 2009 11:00)"

thanks Demi, and arta for yr comments. in fact, i've entitled our chapter on demaci: "The Nelson Mandela Of Kosova." i've met him several times, he's quite a man, quite a character, with his "tarzan English." once we met him with his current wife, who is quite charming. But when she saw our picture of Ceca in the book, she dropped it to the ground.

ceca has quite an affect on people, even now, even me.

be that as it may, i agree that serb (and all) refugees should be welcome back to Kosovo/a, unless (obviously) they committed crimes. those only welcome back to trials, etc. which %% committed crimes i cannot say, for me that is pure speculation.

of course all refugees across the balkans (not guilty of crimes) should be allowed to return to their homes, if they so choose. that means throughout Bosnia, Croatia, etc. i couldn't care less whether they call it federation, republika srpska, whatever. for me those are simply names put onto places inside bosnia.

there are so many needs to address in the balkans, and they won't be, as long as it is biz as usual, as long as there is one country particularly trying to destabilize the region, continuing to harbor war criminals, continuing to persecute those who it sees as the "other."

  9. 4,5 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit!

Can't believe that albanians responding to this article are finding excuses for this horrible crime against this innocent man. Albanians are always trying to find excuses for their behaviour. Just say you are sorry you ruined this mans life and that's it. Instead albanians are justifying sending an innocent Serbs to jail. I hope, with all my heart, that there will never be peace between Serbs and albanians.
    (MikeC, 6 November 2009 18:34)
  10. However, I know that my (former) Serbian neighbors are guilty of stealing my property and burning down my house in Peja. 2 of them were members of the local police. Shortly before the UCK and NATO took control of that sector they ran away (according to the old Albanian couple nearby) and are now also part of the number of "displaced Serbs from Kosovo".
    (John, 6 November 2009 17:02)

so according to an old albanian couple, john, these serbs are guilty of stealing and burning your property in kosovo before the heroic uck/nato swooped to the rescue?? what exactly did they steal? why burn down just your house? where were you during all this time? were you one of the "500,000" missing?
    (false_witness, 6 November 2009 18:31)
  11. I don't know if he is guilty. When the court rules that then judically he is. End of the story.

    (stariVujadin, 6 November 2009 16:37)
  13. To be honest Mike, while 60% does sound very high, a big percentage of K.Serbs have participated in crimes against albanians.

I base this what I know and witnessed myself:

    1. There were no many jobs in Kosovo during the 90s and big perecentage of serbian men worked for state institutions mainly the police.

When the war broke out many of them joined the fighting hence they were involved in some of the atrocities. there many other K.Serbs that joined the reservists ranks who were no previously policemen.

    2. Personal observations: There were about 4 serbain families / flats in my street. one was an old woman living on her one, another was another woman living with her daughter.

From the other two families/flats one of them was continuously involved in fightin during the war, and the other one personally with the help of other paramilitaries kicked us out of our homes after they robbed us.

On the way to the border we were stopped by local serbs in civilian clothes who wanted to take our car. After paying them they let us go.

On the border with Macedonia, one of the serbian 'policemen' recognised my dad. This was a guy that used to work with him previously and wasn't even in the police before. when my dad asked him what he was doing, his reply was 'the homeland calls' (in serbian and i cant remember the exact phrase).

Many other people i know personally, witnessed similar events.

I could go on and on about other things i seen.

I am sure MikeC and others will have a 'copy/paste' reply ready for me stating how i am lying, or was confused and in fact they were KLA, NATO etc etc. and th usual.

    3. Not all K.serbs agreed with wat was happening - the woman that lived with her daughter in my street (mentioned earlier) actually saved by begging one of my albanian neighbours from getting executed because he had a foto in his luggage of his son with an albanian flag on the background. I paid some money for his life as well.

The point is, yes many K.serbs did commit crimes, however i do not agree with generalisation and prejudice and if serbs that are 'clean' (in absence of better term) want to return, they should.

Would i be fine with the two serbian women and their families returning - Yes.

Would i be fine with the serbian neighbour who chucked us out, returning to the neighbourhood - No.
    (nikshala, 6 November 2009 16:31)
  14. Demi, as various others have taken you to task for the "60%" claim I will point out some facts about Adem Demaçi. He was imprisoned by Yugoslavia and not specifically the republic of Serbia. He was released in 1990 and was free thereafter. Even when he became a political representative of the KLA.
    (PJD, 6 November 2009 16:01)
  15. "60% of the K.serbs did crime against the albanian populations there. That is why no one of them is returning to Kosovo. And they are not welcomed.
    (Demi)"

-- I have no doubt more Albanians than Demi believe this bar-rumor. The sad thing is that such randomly fabricated numbers make their ways to "history books" for a new generation of Albanians to be indoctrinated. It's a neat way for the revisionists to explain the expulsion of large percentages of an ethnic race and cover up stories of violence, harassment, and intimidation instigated by their own.
    (Mike, 6 November 2009 14:39)
  16. Thank you Demi for explaining the state of the judicial system in Kosovo - completely incompetent. It seems to work on myth, just like your 60% claim instead of fact.
    (Zoran, 6 November 2009 14:35)
  17. Every time a miscarriage of justice like this takes place in Kosovo (failing to convict an Albanian Muslim) for war crimes, it sinks Kosovo deeper into a black hole and reaffirms Serbia’s moral ground and argument. This is why Kosovo Albanians will never travel freely in Europe, they are in fact self imprisoned in their fake independent Kosovo. Obviously something that greater Europe prefers.
    (Canadian, 6 November 2009 14:34)
  18. 60% of the K.serbs did crime against the albanian populations there. That is why no one of them is returning to Kosovo. And they are not welcomed.

Glad, you made it to Sweden. Working for Saab, eh? How's the weather in Trollhätten?

  19. 60% of the K.serbs did crime against the albanian populations there. That is why no one of them is returning to Kosovo. And they are not welcomed.
    (Demi, 6 November 2009 11:00)

60%? Please support this bogus claim with facts. Your bogus statistics would mean that a large percentage of women, elderly, and children committed crimes against Albanians. Pathetic attempt at sounding like you know what you are talking about.
    (Jason, 6 November 2009 12:51)
  20. Nothing compared to Adem Demaci who sat in serbian prison for 28 years for doing nothing. The Mandela of Kosovo.

  21. aRTA - This is nothing more than a show trial to try to make it look like Kosovo has a genuine justice system. We all know that's BS.

Real justice will only be served when Serbian citizens such as Thaci and Haradinaj face a Serbian or truly independent international court. Everything else in between is just a farce.
    (Radoslav, 6 November 2009 10:40)
  22. Though he has been cleared in the end, Anđelko Kolašinac has had to spend 4+ years in prison and spend a decade clearing his name.
    (PJD, 6 November 2009 10:31)
  23. I am willing to accept this, the court worked so guilty or not in reality he is free by law. I hope that this case and others pending doesn't discourage Serbs from returning. That would really harm and sadden Kosova, as you know.

This is nothing like the 1000's of persecutions Serbian "justice" system administered to the Albanians.

So, I hope he stays and that refugee Serbs return. (Those that have not commuted crimes of course, everyone agrees on that I assume)
