Some 30 prisoners in the Valjevo Juvenile Correctional Facility have ended their hunger strike.
Reports earlier in the day said they were protesting against disciplinary actions taken after a fight broke out on Monday in this western Serbia-based jail.
According to a statement from the Justice Ministry’s Administration for the Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions, two groups of prisoners brawled on Monday.
The main actors in the fight will be moved to maximum security prisons and those who participated in the fight will face disciplinary actions, according to the administration.
About ten young men participated in the fight and there were some 30 prisoners refusing to eat.
Prison security intervened immediately and separated the groups, and thanks to them, no one was seriously injured, the statement added.
The fight was the result of a seizure of a large amount of drugs and mobile phones that took place last month, the prison administration explained. |
