Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin stated that it was necessary to modernize the current security system in all of Europe. “This is why Russia has launched the initiative to a contract signed on European security, which would provide equal and reliable guarantees for all the countries, no matter which military alliance they belong to,” Konuzin told the Serbian Economic Summit in Belgrade on Monday. Konuzin stated that Serbia is one of Russia’s main partners in the region and that the recent visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Belgrade emphasized Serbia’s special position in the Balkans. “Russia will help Serbia in the protection of its national interests,” the Russian ambassador said, and added that his country is opposed to illegal partition of Serbia's territory.
