KFOR Commander Markus Bentler said that there are no threats from the outside against Kosovo.
The German general assessed that the problems are "possible ethnic tension and the situation in the north".
According to Bentler, other problems include the fragile economy and "unresolved relations with Serbia".
“The security situation in the region is satisfactory generally. I do not see any military threats from abroad. That is good news for all Kosovo residents. There are no signs of danger,” Bentler said in an interview with Albanian language daily Koha Ditore.
He added that as far as the security situation in Kosovo and the region is concerned, “positive steps have been made in the last several months”.
“Ethic tension, the situation in the north, the unresolved questions with Serbia, and the fragile economy can all be by-passed if the people in Kosovo continue to look at their future positively,” Bentler was quoted as saying.
“Strong Gates”
Also on Monday in the province, KFOR announced that its multinational troops employed in the north will carry out a regular military exercise dubbed “Strong Gates" on Thursday and Friday
According to a statement from the NATO-led forces, the exercise will be carried out in cooperation with EULEX and the Kosovo police, KPS.
The main goals of the exercise are a joint training of KFOR Tactical North and Operative Reserve troops, it was stated.
The troops will get familiar with the terrain and all defense procedures at what the statement described as “border crossings” of Brnjak and Jarinje.
The administrative line checkpoints are located near Leposavić and Zubin Potok.
One of the goals of the two-day exercise is to establish cooperation among KFOR, EULEX and the KPS, the statement concluded. |
