  1. However, they will have autonomy. Just like Yugoslavia but with a majority of Serbs dominating this new Balkan superpower.
    (Hank the Tank, 3 November 2009 17:47)

    Hank,

"Balkan superpower", isn't that an oxymoron, sort of like "democratic Serbia"!
    (Rocky, 4 November 2009 17:43)
  2. Atman,
You could easily say that to any country from the Baltic to the Adriatic to the Black Sea, perhaps all the way to the Pacific. The entire Socialist property was there for grabs...
    (nik, 3 November 2009 18:51)

Damn, and we wasted our time in USA learning and working. I feel good if we buy tickets on Malév or ride ZCG to see the coast of CG.

"They" buy Malév, ZCG and the rest of CG.

  3. -- Aye, where are they going to secede into? Northern Kosovo? Republika Srpska? Montenegro? Somebody get this kid a map.

    (Mike, 3 November 2009 21:55)

To Berane in CG, of course. Everyone and their dog in Serbia/KosMet does try to register their cars in Berane municipality. Probably costs less, easy to "smooth" the way with officials and the license number is 100% neutral.

Hungary and Vojvodina should become provinces of the country of Berane. Solves the ethnic question 100% and more importantly, the car registration taxes.

  6. Interesting to read albanian comment where everything has to do about taking/stealing territory. Albanians don't seem to realize that the EU is one. Here regions matter not independence. If they wanted independence they wouldn't tare down borders. Vojvodina just wants to keep the money they earn. Does anyone honestly think 67% percent Serb population will accept to be torn away from Serbia? Vojvodina, Republika Srpska and Serbian Kosovo will form the new Serbian federation together with Serbia. However, they will have autonomy. Just like Yugoslavia but with a majority of Serbs dominating this new Balkan superpower.

You provided a link to an article suggesting that Vojvodina would have the right to a referendum. However, as usual you are full of s...

Independence for Sandak! Ha ha ha! You can't even make a state out of Kosovo much less Sandak. Kosovo is failing in every possible way. Also don't forget the greek dominated Northern Epirus in south Albania. They want their independence too. Give it 3-5 years and they will have it.

  8. wake up serbs and vojvodina is 75% serbs so let the people vote not the goverment so there is 1,700,000 serbs and about 200,000+ hungarians stop this little statute because its a joke let the people vote in the province NOT YOU GOVERMENTS THAT WANT TO FILL YOUR POCKETS AND TAKE MONEY AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE.
    (gajo, 3 November 2009 16:01)

    Wake up Gajo,

    - Hungarians in Vojvodina have pretty much nothing to do with it to begin with
    - If you tell the Hungarians in Hungary that they will be 33%-33%-33% partitioned between Serbia, Croatia and Slovakia - the eyes of the majority will light up: "won't we have less corruption, lower prices and higher salaries than?"

Where all that Vojvodina + Hungary nonsense coming from? Probably because people need visa lately, but not after January 1, 2010.

Come here after "white Schengen" and get enlighted... :-(
This is not the Hungary of 1990-s, it's the alms house where both the government and the opposition is busy to create a local cleptocratic empire and none of fat cats deserves less than 5 years in prison.
    (Ataman, 3 November 2009 16:50)
  9. In this case is not a problem of etnicity that could cause a division but an Economic one, the usual dilemma between the rich and the poor in the Balkans (see Slovenia as an example )
In Trieste lately the Voivodina boss (can't remember his name) has made clear that Serbia must do everything to enter Eu he said that his region is ready to enter..someone asks him about the remain of Serbia...he asked for the next question..
    (Luigi, 3 November 2009 16:43)
  10. Hungary will inject heavy finanaces and Direct Investments, recover the lands of ethnic Hungarians that were ethically cleansed from WWI and WWII, through LEGAL means.

How fast the history is being reversed.

    NEXT is Sanjak!
    (PRN, 3 November 2009 12:13)

LOL, this was a good one. I liked "inject heavy finanaces and Direct Investments" the most. Ever been in Hungary?

We honestly hope, Vojvodina, Croatia, the rest of Serbia (Kosovo included) will inject heavy finances and Direct Investments in Hungary.

The Lánchíd (chain-bridge) in Budim as the Serbian-Croatian-Slovakian triple border sounds like a promising idea.

But if not, please find where to get these heavy finances from? There are about 10 million people in Hungary now who have no slightest idea. But if you in your Kosovo down there, where the prices are the half of Hungarian, while the net salaries the same know: please tell me ASAP.

Last time I did laugh that good as my wife (after being an assistant teacher in Santa Clara County and having about $2500 / month net + Kaiser Permanente for the entire family) got her salary of $350 plus food vauchers. We did not need food vauchers in Santa Clara County and that $350/month for math-in-English high school teacher is a bit.... pathetic to say the least.

Luckily, that is not for living, we regard it merely as training course. But for Hungarian teachers this IS the salary!!!

True, the prices in Bay Area are pretty steep, but at least a salary of teacher assistant covers the mortgage and/or the rent. Plus having Kaiser Permanente for a mere two hundred-something for the entire family is a huge bonus. Here that $350 not even covers the *ss.

  11. Does anyone actually believe this is stage 1 on independence.

This bill is far less then the autonomists wanted. It also makes them more dependant on Serbia, they also have no source of income compared to now.

The regional contracts arrangement gives them less power then now. And the way the consitutional order is arranged Serbia can easily block Vojvodina plans regarding judges.

This bill is a victory for Serbia's soveirgnity, drastically udnercutting what autonomists/seperatists wanted. It is a great loss to autonomists/seperatists, as evidenced by LSV's hatred for the proposal.

Everything that was unconstitutional has been removed.

Next step for Seriba's soveirgnity, regionalization and abolish of Vojvodina (the main reason autonomists and LSV reaced hysterically to the regionalization proposal in Serbia's parliament, they see it as a step to undemrine them).

  13. Vojvodina must get 100% of the powers Slobodan took away in 1980's. They even had a rotating president of the YU, so I hope they don't settle for less than "Less than independence, more than autonomy" and later hold a referendum. EU is on your side Vojvodina.

Why should Vojvodinans support the rest of Serbia?
    (aRTa, 3 November 2009 15:28)
  14. What does Belgrade think it is doing??

Belgrade has no idea what to do in the last 20 years. They say any strategy is better than to have no strategy at all.
In every conflict since Slovenia Belgrade has a different approach. After Dayton the fate smiled to Serbia. All it had to do was to give a full throatle towards EU, to preserve the union with Montenegro, to disolve Vojvodina, to integrate Srpska and... to get rid of Kosovo! But the fixation with the latter lead from one catastrophe to another.
Why on Earth Vojvodina, a Serbian majority region should need a special status? Only to show example for Kosovo's supposed status after it comes back. Well Kosovo is not going back, why give such a status to Vojvodina. If it is because of the Hungarians, why not limit it to the Norther quarter?
    (nik, 3 November 2009 15:00)
  15. Well boo hoo mr kostres. I feel your pain.

  16. "will be able to sign only regional, not international contracts. " Forgive my ignorance, but in other countries i.e. EU and USA, aren't commercial contracts like road building decided at national level, not regional, so what kind of contracts would this cover?

"The Vojvodina assembly will not be able to decisions with the power of law, but it will arrange and govern the courts in its own territory. " So Vojvodina won't be able to pass laws but it'll decide how many courts + judges there are?

"It will have a development bank, but a special law will govern the province’s assets." So what does the "special law" cover?

"but we won’t by any means allow the citizens of Vojvodina to be in a subordinate position and we won’t allow Vojvodina to lose something by the adoption of these acts,” he was quoted." Is this Chinese only to me? How will they be in a subordinate position and what will they lose out on?

Serbia doesn't need enemies when it's doing their job for them!! Germany is doing a great job in destroying Serbia's power and influence in the region.

Serbs have only themselves to blame for this.
    (Radoslav, 3 November 2009 14:39)
  17. This is stage 1 for future independence of Vojvodina. What does Belgrade think it is doing??
    (Radoslav, 3 November 2009 11:51)
THIS is exactly right....where is Tadic and the government trying to protect Serbia's sovereignty??? Serbs need to wake up before they end up with all of their land stripped away and becoming simply a pashalik of Belgrade. This is a continual and unrelentless attack on Serbia....and it's being cleverly orchestrated by the EU and Germany, and big money corporations. Tadic isn't a defender of Serbia- he was placed there by the West to bring Serbia to "them". Please stop this madness- Vojvodina is SERBIAN!!!
    (Rick, 3 November 2009 14:14)
