LSV leader and MP Nenad Canak says all the talk about the draft Vojvodina statute is just another way to divert attention from "the plundering" of the province. Canak spoke in a forum in Pancevo to add that Vojvodina "will be respected only as much as it's able to articulate its own demands". Vojvodina politician "ready to pay price" “We must fight for what we want. For that you must pay the price and I am ready to pay any price but blood,” Canak said. He was also quoted as saying that "the Belgrade centralists" are continuing to "rob Vojvodina constantly imposing new excuses". “And there is no man good enough to make as much money as an average thief can steal. And we're not dealing with run-of-the-mill thieves – these are experts,” Canak continued. Director of the Center for Regionalism Aleksandar Popov was also present at the forum where he was heard saying that centralism “never left the heads” of the political elite in Serbia. “Why don’t they give Vojvodina essential autonomy so the Kosovo Albanians could see what they were missing?” Popov asked. Sociologist Janja Bec said "there is evidence all over Vojvodina" of "incredible proportions of destruction and plundering" of this province. Political expert Jovan Komsic said that ignoring Vojvodina is not in the best interest of the leader of the Democratic Party and Serbian president Boris Tadic, "who won the elections thanks to Vojvodina’s voters". He said that the Serbian Constitution "should be changed" in order to create conditions for essential autonomy in Vojvodina, because the current Constitution "makes only a facade of autonomy possible”. All these speakers were in attendance at the forum organized by the Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina, and supported by the American NED foundation.
