Serbian and Russian Presidents Boris Tadic and Dmitry Medvedev have agreed on the details of a USD 1bn Russian loan to Serbia. The Serbian delegation told FoNet that USD 200mn would go to the state budget, while the expert teams from both countries would decide what to do with the rest of the loan. Russia to approve billion dollar loan to Serbia Tadic confirmed that he had received a positive answer from the Russian president to Serbia’s requests concerning Russian loan support and the South Stream pipeline project. “We have received a positive answer from the Russian president and Duma concerning our application for loan support and our joint involvement in the South Stream project,” said Tadic after the meeting, which, he said, had been of “historic significance.“ The Serbian president stated that many areas where the two countries could work together had been identified, such as the establishment of a crisis situation center in Nis and investment in infrastructure of roads and railways. According to Tadic, there was a possibility to built new port facilities on the Danube and to make new investments in energy. Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian agencies in Belgrade that a final decision on the loan deal would be drawn up today. Shoigu, who is also co-president of the inter-governmental committee for trade and economic cooperation, stated that the deal involved financing infrastructure projects connected to the railways and other projects important to the Serbian economy.
