Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has praised Serbia’s relations with Slovakia, stating that cooperation with Bratislava is vital to Serbia on its EU path . Speaking to Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, Cvetkovic welcomed Slovakia’s support for the immediate implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement and visa liberalization for Serbian citizens. PM plays host to Slovakia's Lajcak According to a statement from the Serbian government's media relations office after the meeting, the prime minister said that he greatly appreciated Slovakia's defense of the principles of international law when it came to Kosovo, and its support to the preservation of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Cvetkovic and Lajcak agreed that there were plenty of opportunities for economic cooperation and that they would work even harder on improving economic cooperation between the two countries in future. Cvetkovic said that Serbia would continue promoting the position of the Slovak minority in Serbia, which was an important bridge for cooperation between the two countries. Meanwhile, after meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic, Lajcak said that Slovakia supported implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement and would push for this issue to be included on the agenda of the EU Council of Ministers’ session to be held in Luxembourg at the end of October. According to a statement from Djelic’s cabinet, the deputy prime minister thanked Lajcak for Slovakia’s strong support for the abolishment of visas for Serbian citizens. It was added that an agreement was also reached on Slovakian technical assistance at expert level to Serbia’s preparation process for gaining access to EU structural funds, especially in the fields of agriculture, human resources and regional development.
