Four persons were hurt yesterday when members of the ethnic Albanian Self-Determination Movement began demolishing EULEX vehicles parked in Pristina. According to police spokesperson Agron Borovci, police intervened after the movement members, who were protesting in front of the EULEX headquarters, started throwing rocks and turning over EULEX vehicles. 28 EULEX cars demolished in Pristina Three police officers and one activist were hurt. Borovci said that 28 vehicles were damaged in the incident and that 21 protesters were arrested. Self-Determination stated that police “used force against the activists and that one the activists was hurt and is currently in the Pristina clinical center". The movement's statement said that the protest was organized against the actions of EULEX, "especially the announced signing of the protocol between the EU mission and the Serbian Interior Ministry" for cooperation in fighting organized crime. “EULEX’s partner for cooperation is Serbia, while the Kosovo institutions are being treated by the mission as a means of reaching their personal goals,” the movement stated. Self-Determination criticized the Kosovo police, KPS, and President and Prime Minister Fatmir Sejdiu and Hashim Thaci. EULEX condemned the violent actions of Self-Determination. “EULEX condemns the act of vandalism in the center of Pristina, in which vehicles of the EU mission were damaged,” the statement adds. EULEX, however, commended the “fast and effective” action of the Kosovo police. “EULEX supports the idea of peaceful protests as an important element of any democratic society, but committing crimes and inflicting damage is not a way to contribute to any protest,” the statement added.
