Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says MUP will start checking addresses in the south of the country after an increase in the number of residency applications. "The visa liberalization will not apply to those who reside in Kosovo and Metohija and we have an obligation toward the European Commission to make sure that passport applications and addresses are real, not phantom," he was quoted as saying. Residency status checks in south This procedure, the minister explained, should not cause any disturbance in the areas in southern Serbian inhabited by ethnic Albanians. The minister told Tanjug news agency on Wednesday that the police completed their action that saw the discovery of an oil tank with a large cache of weapons and ammunition, and that it would contribute to stabilizing the circumstances in the south. He added that other than its contribution to political and security circumstances, it is also in the interest of all citizens in the area, "Albanians and Serbs alike". Bujanovac MUP multiethnic police was given the task to carry out the operation yesterday, and this, according to Dacic, came after his agreement to engage this unit more with ethnic Albanian municipal leaders. Also yesterday, Dacic said that police was able to find the cache based on intelligence information "they have had for some time", and that the land where the tank was buried belongs to an ethnic Albanian who has lived abroad for a long time, "and who has not visited his land in that part of the village for 20 years". The minister also announced that searches would continue, "based on other intelligence data we have", with the goal of eliminating as much illegal weapons from that region as possible.
