Preparations for Russian president's visit The visit is expected to include discussions on a wide range of bilateral issues, including cooperation in various fields and international problems, Konuzin told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. “I am sure that the completion of agreements that are already in effect, especially those related to oil and energy spheres, as well as the new agreements, will improve relations between the two countries and take them to a higher level of quality." "Not only will Serbia strengthen its position as an important trade-economic partner of Russia, but it will assume a higher position as a European factor. European operators are already looking at how to get some use out of out privileged economic ties,” the ambassador was quoted as saying. He stressed that Medvedev’s visit could coincide with the anniversary of the "liberation of Belgrade by the [Soviet] Red Army and Yugoslavs" in the Second World War. “That is where the idea came for the two countries to mark together the anniversary of chasing out the German Nazi troops. And that is appropriate because the people of our nations fought together against fascism,” Konuzin said. The ambassador added that one topic of discussion between the presidents will be Russia's new European security concept.
