500 years of Krušedol monastery

Five centuries since the foundation of the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Krusedol on Mt. Fruska Gora was marked today. The anniversary was celebrated with a liturgy and a church and folk assembly. 500 years of Krusedol monastery Metropolitan of Montenegro and Littoral Amfilohije and 14 bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) served the Holy Liturgy at the monastery with several thousands worshippers present, and with visitors from all parts of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska (RS). The oldest and most important of numerous Mt. Fruska Gora monasteries, Krusedol was built by the last Serb despots, the Brankovics. The remains of the ruling family were buried there, including Despot Djuradj Brankovic and his parents, Angelina and Stefan. Other illustrious Serbs were also laid to rest at the monastery, including Patriarch Arsenije III Carnojevic, Arsenije IV Jovanovic Sakabenta, Vojvoda (duke) Stevan Supljikac, Princess Ljubica Obrenovic and King Milan Obrenovic. Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic, members of the council, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin and other members of the diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of the Serbian Army and police (MUP), were attending the central ceremony of the Quincentenary Jubilee. The festivities today saw Pajtic presented with the Order of St. Arsenije Sremac, for his contribution to the monastery's reconstruction. The Holy Liturgy at Krusedol today (Tanjug)

Metropolitan of Montenegro and Littoral Amfilohije and 14 bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) served the Holy Liturgy at the monastery with several thousands worshippers present, and with visitors from all parts of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska (RS).

The oldest and most important of numerous Mt. Fruška Gora monasteries, Krušedol was built by the last Serb despots, the Brankovićs.

The remains of the ruling family were buried there, including Despot Đurađ Branković and his parents, Angelina and Stefan.
