A five-year-old girl, shot and wounded on Sunday from a weapon she found in a memorial park, is still in a critical condition. Reports said that the girl sustained her injuries in the Jajinci Memorial Park in Belgrade from a homemade weapon. On-duty surgeon Darko Mirkovic said the patient had spleen and part of the pancreas removed during surgery. "She was bleeding profusely. We performed surgical intervention to the stomach, pancreas and left lung. Her spleen and part of the pancreas was removed, and her condition is difficult," Mirkovic, who performed the surgery, said. B92 has unofficially learned that the girl is the daughter of the financial attaché of the Libyan embassy in Belgrade. Police conducted their investigation of the scene, while the probe on the accident is still ongoing. Belgrade daily Blic writes today that the girl, identified as E.V., either activated the firearm herself, or this was done by her brother. The newspaper says that she was on a picnic in the park with her parents and brother when the accident occurred. Police did not reveal what type of weapon was in question, how old it was, whether it was hidden or thrown onto a path at the memorial. On Sunday afternoon, the Libyan embassy would offer no comment. Reporters were only told that no officials were at the premises.
