The city of Pancevo, just north of Belgrade, will be giving champion swimmer Nadja Higl an apartment, according to city officials. The two-bedroom apartment will be furnished with the money set aside by the Vojvodina Executive Council, reports said. Belgrade readies to greet world champions Belgraders will on Monday night at 21:00 CET gather in front of the Old Palace to greet the Serbian water polo team, and swimmers Higl and Milorad Cavic, who all won gold medals at the FINA World Championships in Rome last week. Pancevo native Higl won the gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke race, while Cavic took home the gold in the 50-meter butterfly and a silver in the 100-meter race. The water polo team defeated Spain in the finals to take the gold. Ahead of arriving in front of the Old Palace, athletes will be riding through the Belgrade streets in an open bus with crowds expected to greet the world champions. Belgraders are advised to leave their cars at home in order to keep the streets open, with the public transportation company GSP stating that several buses will be provided for people who live in the Belgrade suburbs and want to attend the parade.
