Štrpce without power, local assembly to meet Monday

Around 12,000 Serbs and 3,500 ethnic Albanians in the village of Štrpce in Kosovo are still without electric power.

Around 12,000 Serbs and 3,500 ethnic Albanians in the village of Strpce in Kosovo are still without electric power. The municipal assembly will discuss this problem at an extraordinary session on Monday. Strpce without power, local assembly to meet Monday The situation in Strpce is getting worse by the day, and 320 of internally displaced persons from several collective centers are in the most difficult position, whereas the health workers say that the situation has made their work more complicated. President of Strpce municipality Zvonko Mihajlovic told Tanjug that members of the local parliament will hold a session Monday, with the attendance of the village representatives, to decide on what further steps to take in order to solve the electricity problem. Mihajlovic reiterated that, in spite of the good will of Serbs to collect individual flat sums of 26 euros for the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) to restore their electricity supply, no KEK representative showed up at the meeting scheduled for Friday in this town in southern Kosovo. "Our biggest problem is KEK's request to hand over the substation in Strpce which is within the jurisdiction of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS)," said Mihajlovic, expressing hope that some of EPS representatives will attend the session.
