Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci says that the process of Kosovo independence is irreversible and that the ICJ’s opinion can have no bearing on this. Asked whether there was the remotest chance of resuming dialogue over status with the Belgrade authorities, Thaci said that this was Belgrade’s wish, but that it did not come into the question, as Kosovo’s independence had progressed very far. Thaci: Independence irreversible The prime minister said that the Belgrade authorities’ message to the Kosovo Serbs not to vote at the upcoming local elections was a grave mistake, saying the ones to suffer most from it would be the local Serbs, who would end up isolated. “We’ll offer a hand to the Serbs, as it’s very important for them to be in the institutions, but it’s not good for people in Belgrade to win political points off the backs of the Kosovo Serbs, as that was typical of the Slobodan Milosevic era,“ he stressed. Asked about the situation in the north, Thaci said that he was against violence, and for a peaceful process, stressing that he wished to work together with the EULEX mission and all other partners, so that “the law applies throughout Kosovo.“ The prime minister promised that Serbs would have electricity in the coming autumn and winter months, “provided they pay, like all other Kosovo citizens.“ Hashim Thaci (FoNet, archive)
