RS Constitutional Court discusses “Bosanski” prefix

The RS Constitutional Court has ruled that omitting the prefix “Bosanski” from municipalities Brod and Kostajnica does not violate Bosniak national interests. Court President Mirko Zovko told reporters that this decision had been taken because the prefix “Bosanski” (Bosnian) came from the name “Bosnia-Herzegovina”, which was a united country of the three constitutive peoples and other citizens, which meant that it could not belong exclusively to the Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) people. The judge added that he personally believed that the omission of the “Bosanski” prefix “insults the Bosniak people and all the other constitutive peoples and other patriots.” The Bosniak club in the RS Council of Peoples lodged an appeal with Constitutional Court after the RS parliament adopted a Law on Territorial Organization, where the “Bosanski” prefix was omitted from the towns of Brod and Kostajnica.

Zovko said that the trial chamber had stated that the names of the two towns were neutral, because they did not have a prefix of a national or any other character, which was why they could not have the character of a vital national interest, but rather a regular state-legal character.

The judge added that he personally believed that the omission of the “Bosanski” prefix “insults the Bosniak people and all the other constitutive peoples and other patriots.”
