"EU candidacy bid possible by end of year"
Swedish Ambassador to Serbia Nils Krister Bringeus has said that it is possible that Serbia will apply for EU candidacy by the end of the year.

Swedish Ambassador to Serbia Nils Krister Bringeus has said that it is possible that Serbia will apply for EU candidacy by the end of the year. "The Serbian government should decide on when they want to apply for the status of the EU membership candidate and I am certain that, after close consultations with their European friends and allies, they will make a wise decision concerning this issue," Bringeus said in an interview published by the Belgrade-based daily Blic. "EU candidacy bid possible by end of year" "I do not exclude the possibility that Serbia could submit the candidacy application already during the Swedish EU presidency," the ambassador, whose country is taking over from the Czech Republic in July, added. Sweden believes that the time has come to activate the whole Interim Trade Agreement, rather than some parts of it, as suggested by the Netherlands, the diplomat continued, and noted that this position cannot be imposed on other EU members, but that Stockholm would seek to achieve a consensus on the issue. "We will have to have a common European position on this question as well, on which there is a debate with the EU at this time. It would be best if Ratko Mladic were already arrested, then we wouldn't have to discuss this," said Bringeus.
