The Ministry of Culture has set up a new commission to deal with the reconstruction of the monastery of Hilandar. The commission adopted a plan of work for 2009, concerning this Serbian Orthodox monastery located on Mt. Athos, Greece. Plans adopted for Hilandar restoration The priority in the coming period will be to restore architecture and focus on conservation works on paintings, frescoes and icons. The restoration and conservation works on the icon of the Mother of God of the Three Hands will be done in accordance to the opinions of experts and the monastery's leadership, a statement said. Serbia's Republic and Provincial Institutes for Protection of Culture Monuments, the National Library of Serbia, with support of a group of Greece's leading experts in the field, are all taking part in the reconstruction works at Hilandar, ravaged in a fire five years ago. With the goal of acting more efficiently, the commission said in the statement issued in Belgrade, the Serbian ministry of Culture, and the Greek Ministry for Macedonia and Thrace should also get involved. The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) will host an exhibiting by the end of this year that will serve to give the public insight into the progress of the restoration works.
