According to the latest CeSID poll, the DS-led coalition enjoys the support of 35 percent of voters, with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) in second on 29%. The poll, which was conducted on a nationwide sample of 5,000 households, shows that the SNS has been steadily gaining on the Democrats, CeSID Executive Director Marko Blagojevic told daily Danas. CeSID: Progressives catching DS Moreover, since the For a European Serbia coalition is made up of the Democratic Party (DS), G17 Plus, LSV, the Sandzak Democrats and the SPO, it can be inferred that the DS and SNS have roughly the same number of supporters. This power balance is further borne out by the fact that, currently, about 42 percent of voters are certain who they would vote for at an election, which is not a small percentage and is normal for a mid-term period. However, Blagojevic added that if elections were called now, there would be changes in the support of both sides. He said that this rating could help the SNS position itself as the leading force in efforts to seek cooperation with the other opposition parties. In terms of personal approval ratings, DS leader Boris Tadic and SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic were way in front of the rest and right behind one another, with Tadic leading slightly. A very interesting part of the poll shows that United Serbia leader Dragan Markovic’s approval rating is three times higher than that of coalition partner, Socialist leader Ivica Dacic. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic has an approval rating of a mere one percent, which Blagojevic attributed to Cvetkovic’s lack of political ambition. “He does not behave like a politician, nor is he trying to be one. It is obvious that in his job, he does not care too much about how people see him as a political figure,” he said. “That can also be useful, because he is in a position to make some difficult and unpopular moves, which a politician, afraid of what it would do for his rating, might refrain from doing,” Blagojevic said.
