No more passports will be issued to Albanians from Kosovo, daily Danas understands from the government. The daily’s source states that following consultations with the European Commission over problems that Schengen agreement signatories were having with illegal immigration from Kosovo, it was decided that Serbia should find a model to prevent any more passports being issued to Kosovo Albanians. "No more passports for K. Albanians?" Danas’s source states that efforts are being made to find a model that would guarantee compliance with the Constitution and law, but that would also make it virtually impossible for Kosovo Albanians to continue receiving Serbian passports. Besides centralization of issuance procedures, which means that Albanians will have to come to Belgrade, and a new mechanism for preventing false registration of places of residence in central Serbia, the authorities will establish an extremely complicated procedure. “In order to comply with all the rules we’ll introduce, Albanians from Kosovo will have to fill in thousands of documents and have to travel from Kosovo to Belgrade about ten times,” said the daily’s source close to the government. The danger of illegal immigration by Albanians from Kosovo, and of Serbs from Bosnia-Hercegovina with dual citizenship, has hampered the visa liberalization process for Serbian citizens.
