Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini says that a lifting of the visa regime for Serbian citizens is feasible by the end of 2009. "The time has come to do everything to bring down the borders that separate the Balkan countries from the EU. That’s why I believe that abolishment of the visa regime for Serbian citizens is feasible by the end of this year,“ Frattini told daily Blic, voicing his belief that “decisive progress is within touching distance.“ "Visa abolishment feasible by year's end" The minister stressed that Italy believed that it was necessary to fully implement the EU’s enlargement plan. That meant opening Europe’s doors to Serbia and the other West Balkan states, which, by their history and tradition, were an integral part of Europe, and which had a reliable and resolute partner in Italy.
