A number of parties and organizations have held rallies in central Belgrade today and distributed fliers in protest at U.S. VP Joe Biden’s visit tomorrow. Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) deputy leader Slobodan Samardzic said that Biden must be coming to Serbia to invite Serbia to join NATO, which, he said, would be the "height of shame." Protests ahead of U.S. VP's arrival “I’m certain that that’s his main mission. That would be the height of shame for Serbia, to recognize in that manner that America and NATO were right to bomb us,“ he told the rally in front of the Russian Tsar cafe, where an exhibition of photos depicting the suffering of the Serb people during the bombing was also on display. Samardzic stressed that Biden remained noted for his “anti-Serb statements,“ and had been one of the most prominent people to call for the U.S. and the world to turn its back on Serbia, to bomb her, and to take her territory by force. “An apology wouldn’t go amiss. That would be a sign that he was conscious of what was happening in Serbia during the bombs and the missiles, and it would be a sign that he acknowledged Serbia minimal rights and national dignity,“ said the DSS deputy leader, adding that if he neglected to do so, then it was up to President Boris Tadic to remind him. Meanwhile, on the eve of Biden’s visit, the Serb Radical Party voiced its “disgust and loathing for the quisling government of Boris Tadic’s Democratic Party, which is receiving a proven Serb-hater and the biggest Siptar [derogatory term for Albanian] lobbyist by laying out the red carpet and offering full state honors.“ As a sign of protest at the U.S. vice-president’s arrival, the SRS have been distributing in all 17 of Belgrade’s municipalities fliers on “what Biden has said about the Serbs and the Serb people.“ Protestors in Belgrade city center (FoNet)
