Serb Kosovo Police Service officers who have not gone to work since Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration will longer receive their wages, the KPS says. In a statement, the KPS adds that some 300 Serb officers will be affected, and that they will be on unpaid leave from now on. They had been receiving their wages regularly up until now. KPS to suspend Serbs’ wages “Starting today, all our Serb colleagues will be suspended without pay. From today until June 30, they will be considered to be on unpaid leave. If they do not return to their jobs by then, their employment contracts will be terminated,” Kosovo police spokesman Arber Beka said. Only 20 Serb officers have returned to work since the independence declaration. Four more recently returned after the announcement that their wages would be suspended. The KPS plans to call a competition in September or October for new police officers to replace those who do not return to their jobs by June 30.
