The Serb Progressive Party (SNS) launched its campaign yesterday for early parliamentary elections at a rally in Nis, called “Serbia’s Future Begins Today”. The SNS said it stood for getting tough on crime and corruption, decentralization, and a better life for the citizens. Party leader Tomislav Nikolic said that the party was offering cooperation to the opposition and government in calling new elections in Serbia. Deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic said that the people should think hard when the time came to vote, stating that Serbia needed a government that would be ready to speak with East and West. Nikolic called on President Boris Tadic to dissolve parliament and call elections. He said that the SNS would not cost the state a single dinar, while calling on the opposition parties to get ready for cooperation. Senior SNS official Jorgovanka Tabakovic presented the party’s plan for decentralization, which involves moving Interior Ministry headquarters to Novi Pazar, government headquarters to Kragujevac, while the Economic and Regional Development Ministry would relocate to Nis. “That way, all the citizens will live better, because money will be spent in other Serbian cities, not just Belgrade,” Tabakovic said.
