Man arrested for swindling Roma

The Serbian police (MUP) in Belgrade says its officers have arrested a man believed to have set up a fraudulent scheme. His victims were the Roma in an illegal New Belgrade settlement, known as Belville, whose ramshackle homes were removed last month. Man arrested for swindling Roma The suspect, identified as Enver Kovaci, for EUR 50 a month each rented spots of land to his compatriots where they put up their shacks. In addition, he illegally connected them to the power grid and charged them for this. Although Kovaci has publicly presented himself as a representative and advocate of the Roma from the settlement, they say he in fact owns an apartment in the Cukarica neighborhood of Belgrade and has never lived with among them.
