The Serbian parliament began its session today with discussion of the agreement between Serbia and Russia for abolishing visas for citizens of both countries. Officials of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) objected to the fact that Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic was not presenting the agreement. Parliamentary session continues Once the items of the agenda are all finished, the parliament is expected to debate the draft of the budget rebalance. Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic said that the debate will be instrumental for minimizing the effects of the recession caused by the economic crisis. She said that the latest estimates state that the Serbian industry will be falling off by two percent, which is why the state is cutting administrative expenses while stimulating infrastructure projects and protecting the standards of citizens hit worst by the crisis. Opposition officials said that they would not support the budget rebalance and the accompanying laws because they believe that they will not help, but rather force the country into an even greater crisis. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and officials from Vojvodina have harmonized stances regarding the state and provincial budget in accordance with constitutional charters on Friday, so that it is expected that all of the parties of the ruling coalition will support the budget rebalance.
