UNMIK spokesman Russell Geekie says that UN Mission Chief Lamberto Zannier is waiting for an answer from the Kosovo institutions regarding new meetings. Meanwhile, Kosovo government spokesman Memli Krasniqi said that the meeting depended on the agendas of Kosovo’s president and prime minister, according to Kosovo daily Zeri. Zannier left hanging by Kosovo leaders Geekie said that UNMIK expected Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to meet with Zannier soon, even though no date had been set. He said that it was completely acceptable for there to be differences of opinion. Krasniqi said that if a meeting did take place, it would be in a format where Sejdiu and Thaci sat on one side, and Zannier on the other. Last Friday, Zeri notes, Sejdiu said that UNMIK could no longer represent Kosovo, since 57 countries had recognized Kosovo’s independence and sovereignty. “I can meet with them, no problem. I’ve had talks with them before, but now I will very clearly state that UNMIK is terminating its mission and that UNMIK does not represent Kosovo any longer,” was Sejdiu’s emphatic response on Friday.
