Policeman shot by robbers dies
A Serbian police (MUP) officer, seriously wounded yesterday by armed robbers on the Belgrade-Novi Sad highway, has passed away this morning.

A Serbian police (MUP) officer, seriously wounded yesterday by armed robbers on the Belgrade-Novi Sad highway, has passed away this morning. The 31-year-old policeman, identified as Vladimir Grandic, succumbed to his injuries in a Novi Sad clinic. Policeman shot by robbers dies The highway shootout took place as police caught up with a group of armed robbers near a gas station. The suspects opened fire and shot the policeman, after which the MUP officers returned fire, lightly wounding two of the robbers. All four suspects have been arrested, identified as Zoran Jovanovic (30), from Valjevo, Danijel Tomic (19) from Koceljeva, near Valjevo, and Nenad Matic (27) and Aleksandar Majmunovic (24), both from Belgrade. After the shooting yesterday, the policeman, shot in the chest, was taken to hospital and operated on for several hours, and was later transferred to a reanimation and intensive care unit, where he died at 08:00 CET on Sunday. It was announced yesterday that he was the son of a police officer killed on duty in 1986.
