League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) official Bojan Kostres says there is no longer any justification for the Vojvodina statute not to be sent to MPs. He told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik that there can be "no more excuses that parliament is ineffective", adding that the LSV – which supports the government in parliament – will ask Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic to publicly state whether there is obstruction in the process of transferring authority to Vojvodina. "No more excuses over statute" “I think that the elected citizens of Vojvodina and their representatives in the provincial assembly have the right to an explanation about what is happening in this process and why for six months we have been waiting for the statute to be put on the Serbian parliament’s agenda,” Kostres said. He said that the delays in the process of adopting the statute and the accompanying laws paints a picture of the position of several parties towards Vojvodina, which shows that “the stances of these parties during the election campaign were solely declarative”. “I am talking about all the parties of the ruling coalition which have headquarters in Belgrade and which cannot agree among themselves on whether the party headquarters or the interests of the people of Vojvodina are more important to them,” Kostres said. “I think that Serbia is currently at a democratic crossroad and I honestly hope that the democratic pluralism and decentralization will win out in all larger parties of democratic orientation,” he added. Kostres added that this is why both in Novi Sad and Belgrade “it must be clearly and loudly stated whether we are for a European road or the preservation of Milosevic’s ‘values’ which include infringing on Vojvodina’s autonomy”.
