The Serb Radical Party (SRS) has asked the Constitutional Court to rule on the Belgrade Assembly’s decision to dissolve the Zemun municipal authorities. The SRS believes that the decision was in breach of the Constitution, the law and the City Statute. SRS maintains Zemun blockade The Zemun Temporary Municipal Council, headed by Zdravko Stankovic, has taken over the running of the Belgrade municipality, but the Radicals have refused to hand over power and have said that they will remain in the building until the Constitutional Court rules on the matter. All was quite in the municipality last night, Stankovic told B92 this morning. “There were quite a few policemen and municipal security. The situation passed quietly and I hope that today, during the day, the Temporary Council will be able to resume its work and adopt very pressing decisions that are necessary for holding new elections in the municipality of Zemun,” he said. Stankovic said that the presence of demonstrators in the municipal building would not hinder the Temporary Council’s work, though it was an irritant to Zemun’s citizens coming to the building to take care of their own business. “As far as I’m concerned, they can stay there the next 10 days too. There’s municipal security there, there’s police, but it’s off-putting for people coming to take care of business, as they’re prevented from moving through the building unhindered and feeling relaxed when they come to the municipality,” he explained. “From today, we’ll do our utmost for citizens to be able to feel unhindered when going about their business, as the municipality is at the service of the citizens, and not for [former Municipal President Slavko] Jerkovic or anyone else to be its president,” stressed Stankovic.
