UNMIK chief in Kosovo Lamberto Zanier did not finalize his report due to be presented to the next UN Security Council meeting. This is according to a report today published in Pristina's Albanian language daily Kosova Sot. "Zannier yet to finish UNSC report" The same newspaper says that it is unclear whether Zannier will meet with Kosovo Albanian leaders ahead of the session in New York. The Italian diplomat is awaiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's report publication in order to finalize his own, according to UNMIK spokesman Russell Geekie. Ban's report will be a basis for Zannier's presentation before the Security Council on March 23, this spokesman explained. This daily says that "it is expected that the Ban report will conclude that the six suggestions made earlier over the problems between Pristina and Belgrade could not be implemented because Pristina was against them". The newspaper says that "months have passed" since Zannier requested a meeting with Kosovo Albanian leaders to infirm them about the preparations for the UNSC meeting, but that it is unclear whether the meetings would take place before March 23. Geekie said that Zannier is trying to meet with Thaci and Sejdiu "if not before the Security Council session, then after", and added that the meeting would take place, but could not confirm any date. "Kosovo's institutions believe that UNMIK has done its job," writes the daily. However, the article adds that some 500 UN mission personnel will continue with their presence in Kosovo next year, and that a budget for them is planned at UN headquarters in New York.
