PM Mirko Cvetkovic is due to defend a package of economic measures meant to pull Serbia out of the economic crisis at a special session of parliament. The prime minister and economy sector ministers will answer MP group questions, according to announcements. Premier to defend economic measures The session, which was set as a day MPs could pose questions, will be attended by the ruling coalition as well as by the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP); the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and New Serbia (NS) have not yet decided on attendance, while the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) has already decided not to attend. DSS MP group Deputy President Rade Obradovic told B92 that the economic crisis should be debated at a parliament session, rather than during MPs questions. “The DSS asked for the parliament session to debate government measures against the crisis because parliament has to approve those measures, and to debate in Parliament everything which lies in the year ahead and the years coming,” he said. “Answers via MP questions are more than frivolous, because in a span of three minutes, as envisioned, the situation in Serbia must be analyzed, then the premier has three minutes to say which measure the government will undertake,” said Obradovic. “We will pose all the questions we have to pose, above all so that Serbian citizens are informed, so that they’re not informed by the newspapers about negotiations with the IMF, how big the budget deficit is, and so that Serbian citizens get all the necessary information at the parliament session, in order for the Finance Ministry to avoid having to take information off of its website and hide from Serbian citizens,” he said, in reference to a recent controversial disappearance of the ministry's annual report. The Radicals will reach a decision at their caucus meeting by 15:00 CET about whether to attend the session or pose questions at all, SRS whip Dragan Todorovic, told B92.
