Serbia's judicial institutions have decided to carry out an investigation against several suspects for war crimes against JNA soldiers in Sarajevo. Speaking to B92, District Court spokeswoman Ivana Ramic announced the decision to investigate the crimes, committed at the beginning of the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia. Based on the Prosecution for War Crimes decision, the Interior Ministry (MUP) issued a warrant for the arrest of 19 people, among them Ejup Ganic, a Muslim member of the wartime presidency in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The investigative judge of the Belgrade District War Crimes Court determined to carry out an investigation against several people for war crimes against prisoners and the employment of means or methods of war banned under international law. “What we can say at this time, which won’t interfere with the investigation, is that these people, meaning several individuals, in the warrant carried out the acts I just stated in connection with events on Duborovljacka Street in May 1992,” she explained. As revealed to B92, the investigative judge’s decision reached MUP on Dec. 29 last year, after which a warrant was issued. Some Bosnian media outlets last night claimed that Croat war presidency member Stjepan Kljujic was also among the suspects. No one has yet been brought to justice for war crimes against Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) soldiers and officers at the beginning of the war in Sarajevo. The Serbian government submitted evidence against Bosnian Muslim wartime President Alija Izetbegovic, as well as Ganic, and Kljujic to the Hague Tribunal, but charges were never brought against them. The Prosecution for War Crimes took over the Duborovljacka case a few years ago after the military prosecution, which had been investigating the topic, was dissolved.
