Following Pristina’s decision to deny him entry into Kosovo, Minister Goran Bogdanovic says it will “only heighten intolerance between Serbs and Albanians.” “Since I live in Kosovo with my family, I frankly wonder if this latest act by the temporary institutions means the remaining Serbs, whose centuries-old roots are in that province, aren't welcome either. That’s an unacceptable attitude. Nobody can stop Serbs from visiting or staying in Kosovo or delivering assistance to the most at-risk,” said Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic Kosovo ban “unacceptable” He said that Kosovo was part of Serbia, under a UN protectorate. “According to Security Council Resolution 1244 and the last presidential statement, UNMIK and EULEX are legally operating in Kosovo. Those missions are the only legitimate points of reference and contact for the state of Serbia,” underlined the Kosovo minister. Bogdanovic added that the Kosovo Ministry had no contact with the Pristina institutions as it viewed them as illegitimate. “Accordingly, we have never sought any permission from them in terms of visits or stays by our officials in Kosovo. Rather, our contact is focused exclusively on the international EU and UN missions that the Serbian government addresses for guaranteeing escorts through Kosovo,” he explained. The minister said that organized escorts “are a procedure that has functioned the same way for years.” According to Bogdanovic, Serbia has no intention or desire to alter that procedure, nor can it therefore be held responsible for the repercussions that any changes might have. “None of this would be necessary if the high security standards that so many refer to in many of their reports truly existed. We are in favor of peaceful solutions and agreements, and not isolation that this attitude could lead to. That’s why we insist on further talks on the implementation of the six points that also encompass the issue of police,” he said. Pristina officials have announced that, in future, they will decide whether Serbian government representatives will be allowed to enter Kosovo, while the province’s prime minister, Hashim Thaci, says that the ban on Bogdanovic is only the start of the new policy.
