EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn commented in Brussels on Monday on Serbia's plans to submit a formal EU membership application. Rehn that during his visit to Belgrade later this week he will express strong support to Serbia's European integrations, but would not recommend to the Serbian government to ask for EU candidate status before the unfreezing of an interim trade agreement – a part of the suspended SAA signed by Brussels and Belgrade last spring. Speaking in a news conference following a meeting with Deputy Premier Ivica Dacic, Rehn said that an applilcation should be proceeded by proof about the implementation of the Provisional Trade Agreement, and that the necessary reforms in the judicial and economic spheres should be carried out as well.
