"Dialogue with Priština on status only"

Belgrade can only hold status negotiations when it talks to Pristina, Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic says. "We do not wish to negotiate with representatives of institutions that have unilaterally declared independence. We can talk to Pristina only about status. Anyway, during the UN six-point plan talks there was no condition that Kosovo institutions should take part." "Dialogue with Pristina on status only" "Still, we are not running away from talking to Albanians, but only within Resolution 1244 and from the point of view of status neutrality," Bogdanovic told daily Vecernje Novosti in an interview. "The status that Kosmet [Kosovo and Metohija] is in now is not and cannot be final. Above all, because the Security Council has not accepted the unilaterally declared independence, just as almost two-thirds of the countries of the world have not. Therefore, the status issue remains open, and we expect the talks to be initiated, if not earlier, then after the International Court of Justice's decision on the illegally proclaimed independence." Bogdanovic also said that Serbia insisted on a UN Security Council session, planned for March, since it sees the Kosovo Security Forces, "unfortunately, formed with the assistance of the international community, KFOR and NATO above all, as something that will not contribute to stability of the situation in the field". "We cannot expect that they will keep the Serbs safe. It is well known that we are in favor of the province's demilitarization, where, according to international organizations, there are over 400,000 rifles and numerous other armaments, which can always be used against the Serbs in a crisis situation. I think that there are enough reasons for [UN] Security Council to make a decision that the KSF is unwelcome," he said. Bogdanovic also told the newspaper that his ministry had no information that a single Serb had joined that formation, adding that he believes the calls on them to boycott have been successful.
