Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica says that opposition parties should cooperate as much as their manifestos will allow. However, he stopped short of making any specific references to a possible coalition with the Serb Progressive Party (SNS). "Kostunica open for cooperation" "We have an agreement with New Serbia (NS) and the National Party (NP). I believe it is time that opposition parties cooperated closely in parliament. The DSS will, proceeding from its national policy principles, cooperate with others as far as our policies coincide. We have observed, for example, that the SNS has come out with criticism of the Vojvodina Statute, which we appreciate," Kostunica said, commenting on the initiative by SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic for closer cooperation between their two parties. Asked about a possible coalition with the SNS, Kostunica told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti: "It is important when elections will be called, and the most important issue for the DSS is that of implementation of the national policy principles for Serbia’s future." In the interview published today, the DSS leader was withering of the current powers-that-be. "They are blundering, and no-one knows any longer where they are heading," he said. The authorities are tacitly agreeing to the independence of the province of Kosovo, a Statute has been prepared that creates a state out of Vojvodina, and the government is neither ready nor capable of dealing with the economic crisis,” he said. “The government’s only result is that it’s declared its every failure a success, using its propaganda machine. Serbia has been dragged into a vicious circle, where one lie is substituted for another and one problem piled on top of another. We’re sinking ever deeper and we must put a stop to it. The only way to end this agony is with new elections,” he stressed. Vojisalav Kostunica (FoNet)
