President Boris Tadic has held a special press conference to mark today’s 19th anniversary of the foundation of his Democratic Party (DS). The DS leader said that the party was celebrating its birthday in a sign of solidarity with the most at-risk and needy citizens. DS celebrates 19th birthday “Instead of celebrating the anniversary, the DS has made a donation to the Home for Mentally Handicapped Children in Sremcica,“ read a party statement. Tadic said that his party was united on all the key issues. He said that a constant debate was running within the party, which had received a mandate to run Serbia for the next four years, on the best way of achieving the aims and values that it stood for, but that the decisions for its implementation were not being called into question. “The DS is the bastion of democracy itself in Serbia, it affirms democratic values and, without the DS, the future of Serbia and the region is inconceivable,“ said the DS leader. He added that times were currently hard in Serbia, but that one major value had been realized—that of a free country.
