Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has discussed application of the six-point plan and the formation of the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) at UN HQ in New York. Jeremic said yesterday that he had discussed application of the six-point plan for Kosovo with UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier and senior officials from the UN general secretariat, and that he had voiced an angry protest at the formation of the KSF. Jeremic discusses Kosovo at UN HQ “Discussing the situation in Kosovo, I expressed Belgrade’s expectation that implementation of the six-point plan would begin as soon as possible,” said the minister, adding that Zannier plans to visit Belgrade next week. “Then we will begin discussing specific steps which we will undertake in February in order to fully implement the six-point plan before the next Security Council session,” he said. According to Jeremic, it was agreed that the Security Council would discuss events in Kosovo at the beginning of March, when Belgrade will raise the issue of the formation of the KSF. The minister also spoke to his colleagues at the UN in New York about the disruptions to peace and stability in the region caused by the formation of the KSF. “I re-stated Belgrade’s firm position and sharp protest at the formation of these forces, and said that would we be discussing the matter further in the Security Council,” said Jeremic. He met in New York with a large number of UN member-state representatives from all five continents, whom he informed about Belgrade’s preparations for the upcoming case at the International Court of Justice on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration. “I asked their countries to actively take part in the process,” said Jeremic, adding that 2009 would see a great deal of diplomatic activity on Serbia’s part, since the Kosovo issue could not be allowed to “slip from the international community’s agenda.” Vuk Jeremic (FoNet, archive)
