Đelić: IMF deal guarantee for dinar stability

Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic says that the arrangement with the International Monetary Fund is an added guarantee for the dinar’s stability in 2009. The dinar’s value continues to slip meanwhile, with the exchange rate on Wednesday at RSD 96.34 to one euro. Djelic: IMF deal guarantee for dinar stability Djelic said that the government would extend cooperation with the IMF if need be, as support for foreign currency reserves. “Serbia has enough capacities in 2009 to maintain a stable exchange rate, which is necessary for everyone, but mostly for our exporters,” the minister said. “I want to inform you that I have initiated negotiations with our European partners, the European Commission, for receiving macro-financial support, which means receiving EUR 400mn that we can use for the budget as well,” he said. “That is money that, unlike the IMF money, can be used for budget income as well. If our tax revenue or privatization income is less than expected, the money from the macro-economic support from the European Commission will be used for avoiding a revision of the budget program,” Djelic explained. The minister said that the government would help industry through incentive funds of EUR 1bn of beneficial credit. “These funds will be available starting February, and exporters can count on them in these emergency and complicated economic times,” Djelic said.
