Ivanović on "return strategy" for K. Serbs

The first phase of a document entitled, the Return Strategy for Kosovo Serbs, has been completed, says Oliver Ivanovic. "The first phase of the strategy has been finalized and each of us must now give their opinion. It is very practical and free of all phrases," said Ivanovic, according to Beta news agency. "We will strive to enable people to return. The number of those who wish to return at this moment is not great", he continued, stating that the issue of Serbs thrown out of their homes in Kosovo who are now displaced "must not be politicized". The Ministry for Kosovo will, according to this official, "along with improving the lives of Serbs, spend RSD 200mn to encourage small family enterprises", considering this as a necessary precondition for the Serb community to survive and return to the province. Creating new jobs is important because not every Serb can be employed with the budget-funded institutions, Ivanovic said. He reminded that more than 20,000 Serb lost their jobs "through no fault of their own" and are now receiving unemployment benefits, while he believes that this money should go to a fund that would grant loans to family enterprises. Ivanovic also addressed the issue of embezzled funds set aside for the Serbs in Kosovo, to say that while the ministry has no powers to investigate, it can control payments made in the past years.
