Cabinet ministers and Sandzak rivals Sulejman Ugljanin and Rasim Ljajic signed a joint statement in Belgrade on Friday. The statement, initiated by President Boris Tadic, said that they would do all in their power to prevent any future incidents in and around Novi Pazar. Ljajic, Ugljanin sign joint statement "We are determined to prevent any future incidents in the region and we will join forces and do everything in our power not to let political activities and rivalry turn into universally detrimental developments in Sandzak and Serbia," said the statement, a copy of which was sent to Tanjug. Ugljanin, who heads the Bosniak List for European Sandzak, and Ljajic, who heads the Sandzak Democratic Party, voiced their "sincere belief" that everybody in Sandzak must join efforts for the sake of welfare and prosperity of the people, "at this difficult time of international economic crisis". Ugljanin's talks with Novi Pazar Mayor Mirsad Djerlek about the stabilization of the situation, turning to the future and economic prosperity of the town and the region preceded the statement on Friday. Four people were injured on January 17 in Novi Pazar, with one person being shot in the leg. The incident was triggered by the ruling parties’ decision not to allow the opposition Bosniak List officials to use their offices located in the town’s culture center building.
