Tomislav Nikolic says he has not received any official request for his dismissal as chairman of the Parliamentary Administrative Committee. The Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader told B92 that Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic’s statement that a request for his dismissal existed showed “a strange tie between the SPS and the Serb Radical Party.” Still no request for Nikolic dismissal He criticized the work of the government and said that he would like to see new elections. Nikolic said that the SNS was entitled to two chairmanships in parliamentary committees and that if he was dismissed from the Administrative Committee, the SNS would resign from the other two committees, for finance and agriculture. Speaking of the legitimacy of his MPs’ mandates, Nikolic said that the Constitution stated that the mandates belonged to MPs and not parties, and that enforcing the resignations of Radicals that had come over to his party would be a blow for the Democrats. “The Democratic Party will be much harder hit because they are being blackmailed by the fact that the opposition can obstruct the work of parliament, and they can only solve the problem by dangling a piece of meat in front of the hungry beast’s face every time. How long will that last? How long will Tadic keep G17, the SPS, the SPO, Nenad Canak, and the Hungarian parties at bay?” Nikolic wondered. He said that there should be no talk of reconstructing the government or new coalitions, because his party had no intention of participating in this government. “If there is no bread in May, if there is no difference in May whether you are in government or opposition, and hundreds of people are jostling in the streets looking for work—is it important who is in power then? Is that a government?” Nikolic asked. The SNS leader said that he would prefer new parliamentary elections, because the government was not functioning and parliament was constantly being threatened by obstruction from the opposition.
