A part of the ruling coalition in Serbia met in Belgrade recently and agreed there will be no cabinet reshuffle and no elections this year. Belgrade daily Blic writes on Saturday that the meeting was attended by the pre-election ticket known as "For a European Serbia" (ZES) leaders, including Boris Tadic, DS, Nenad Canak, LSV, Vuk Draskovic, SPO, Mladjan Dinkic, G17, and Rasim Ljajic, SDP. Daily: No early elections, reshuffle in 2009 This group was after the May elections joined by half a dozen other parties to form the government and the ruling coalition. The ZES leaders have agreed that Serbia needs political stability, the newspaper says. "The meeting concluded that the government must stand united in the defense against the world economic crisis and that it must speed up EU integrations and activities to build Corridor 10," Blic quoted a source who attended the talks. The leaders also evaluated that parliament must be a place where legislation is adopted, while opposition parties are expected to give constructive criticism, rather than block institutions, "in order words, to be the opposition to the government, not to the people and the state". Dinkic, who clashed with other government members over the sale of NIS to Gazprom, reportedly told the meeting that his party maintains its position on the issue, but that he does not wish to jeopardize the cabinet's unity and stability. The newspaper also says that right after Christmas next week, Tadic, Dinkic and PM Mirko Cvetkovic are set to meet with representatives of the largest companies to reach agreement on measures that should be undertaken to counter the crisis. "It will be a demonstration of the coalition's unity, since Dinkic and Tadic will appear in public together for the first time in a long time," the source told Blic.
