Interior Minister Ivica Dacic was touring MUP's Counter-Terrorist Unit (PTJ) in Barajevo, near Belgrade, this Saturday. His visit to one of MUP's special units comes a day after a series of raids in Presevo that ended with the arrest of 10 suspected war criminals from the ranks of the KLA. Dacic: Arrests come with security risks The operation, Dacic said, carries with it some security risk, as it can be expected that "those who have also been hit by it, who participated in the crimes against Serbs, will react in some way". Dacic told journalists who accompanied him to the PTJ base that yesterday's operation was not directed against ethnic Albanian residents of the area, and added that he, in the capacity of interior minister, guarantees Serbian citizens' safety regardless of their ethnicity. Dacic stated that the fight against crime and those who committed war crimes knows no ethnic differences and that police yesterday acted on the orders of the War Crimes Prosecution. "We have acted on the prosecution's orders, just as we have processed a number of Serbs that held important offices in the police because of crimes against Albanians." Dacic said any deterioration of the situation "does not go in favor of the need for the Albanians to become an integral part of Serbia's society", and added that the state is ready to cooperate with those living in southern Serbia. The minister called for peace, saying that police did not use force in its operation yesterday, which went without incidents. Dacic described the arrests as being "of great state interest". "The state of Serbia, naturally, partakes in investigations of war crimes in the territory of former Yugoslavia. We think that the whole world should learn what kind of crimes were committed against the people of former Yugoslavia, especially in Kosovo and Metohija," said Dacic. The minister was accompanied at the PTJ base today by Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Konuzin, who donated 30 tons of oil derivatives to the unit, and money vouchers as awards for the best five of its members.
