The Slovenian president says he doubts that the Czech Republic will manage to come up with a common approach to Kosovo as it takes over the EU presidency. "Slovenia failed to find agreement on a common approach, France also failed later, and the Czech Republic will not succeed, either. The differences between the member states are too deep," Danilo Turk told the Prague daily Mlada Fronta Dnes. EU differences over Kosovo "too deep" Turk singled out the issue of Kosovo as an example that a solution and common position cannot be sought from a country that is presiding over the union for just six months. "Whole generations of the presiding countries will have to be tasked with finding common ground over that [Kosovo's independence declaration]." Turk also said that his country's presidency in the first half of 2008 saw as its successes "Croatia's, Bosnia's and Serbia's progress in getting closer to the EU". Prague had set the same goal for itself, but this has now been somewhat overshadows with the EC "and the old member states" appraisal that the global economic crisis will be the Czech presidency's main priority, Beta news agency says.
